sustainability
We want to do good in this way and support the protection of endangered species. Among other things, crocodile leather watch straps are sold on this site. With the introduction of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973 and the listing of various crocodile species in the following years, crocodile and alligator populations worldwide have recovered. Wild populations are steadily increasing, and farms have been established for breeding. The species-appropriate treatment on these farms is a top priority for us. The positive recovery of wild populations is thanks to the strict regulations of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Unfortunately, there are still animal species that enjoy little to no protection and are traded without restrictions worldwide. We want to advocate for this and give such species a voice. We are constantly looking for suitable partners and are evaluating what kind of support makes the most sense.
In collaboration with our producers, we strive to use materials that meet our ecological requirements. As a Swiss family business, we take our responsibility seriously, including from an ecological perspective. Where possible, our watch straps are manufactured in Europe. We strive to do the same with our materials. The variety of different materials is constantly growing and is becoming increasingly important from a sustainability perspective. As with many things, various aspects regarding the resource utilization of materials must be considered. We are constantly working to find the best solutions for our customers and meet their requirements. Thanks to our close cooperation with manufacturers, retailers, and end customers, we are close to the market and can react quickly to emerging trends.
Vegan materials
Various vegan alternatives to leather are made from natural resources such as cork or apple material. The cork is obtained from the cork oak, which grows in Portugal, and is naturally regenerated. The material is even biodegradable. The apple watch strap is made from apple residue. The skin remains after juicing; this excess apple peel is dried and processed into granules. The granules are then pressed into a mass, which is then pressed layer by layer and smoothed. The end result is a hide. This looks and feels very similar to calfskin. You can find more information in our "Leather" section. "Vegan ribbons" .
Other materials are emerging and are very exciting for us. For example, watch straps made from plastic waste from the world's oceans. The material is processed into granules and then into a yarn, and it looks very similar to the popular NATO watch straps. A great idea.
